THE POST OPERATIVE ADVICE OF THE DU.VAL DENTAL OFFICE

  1. Keep the gauze pad compressed between the arches for about 20-30 minutes.

  2. Do not drive after surgery.

  3. Mild bleeding, moderate pain, bruising (manifested by the appearance of a purplish-red spot near the intervention site) and swelling and sometimes even a reduction in the opening of the mouth are common; these symptoms tend to increase until the 2nd-3rd post-operative day and then gradually decrease; if further complications occur or if these symptoms worsen contact your doctor by phone.

  4. To limit swelling and pain, apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the affected area of the face, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for the first 8-12 hours.

  5. Avoid strenuous exercise, rest for the rest of the day and keep your head raised above your body for the first 24 hours (during the 1st night it would be better to sleep with 2 pillows behind your head).

  6. Do not smoke or drink alcohol for the first 3-4 days.

  7. Don't chew gum.

  8. Swallow saliva without spitting or rinsing for the first 10 hours.

  9. Semi-liquid and cold diet for the first 24 hours; until the stitches are removed, a soft and lukewarm diet is indicated, chewing on the side opposite the operated area.

  10. Don't drink through a straw.

  11. Brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush only after the first 10-12 hours.

  12. Avoid traumatizing the operated area which must be cleansed only by using a prescribed mouthwash (0.2% chlorhexidine) for about 2 minutes half an hour after brushing your teeth; if necessary, use the prescribed gel ointment.

  13. Do not take drugs that contain acetyl-salicylic acid (aspirin) in order not to slow down and hinder clotting.

  14. Take the prescribed medications in the manner prescribed.
