FULL AND PARTIAL PROSTHESIS 

There are different types of prostheses: full and partial. If the patient has only a few teeth, the partial prosthesis is used, which is inserted between the existing ones. Total dentures are used when there are only a few or no teeth. The remaining teeth are extracted and a gingival mold is made.

The mold is then sent to the dental laboratory where the mobile prosthesis is created on the basis of it.

While waiting for his full denture, the patient is given a temporary one.

A  partial prosthesis  instead, it replaces more missing teeth. It anchors itself to the residual natural teeth through metal hooks.  

The total prosthesis is one of the aphysiological devices, as the chewing loads are completely discharged on the mucosa and on the underlying bone, because residual teeth or roots are missing (edentulous). It therefore has the task of completely restoring masticatory functions. It is better defined as “total mobile” as it is a device that the patient himself can remove for cleaning and reinsert at any time of the day.
It is a device designed to replace entire edentulous arches. With the teeth produced currently, excellent aesthetic results are obtained: the skill of the Dentist is fundamental, who, in particular for the front teeth, is able to give the prosthesis a natural appearance that is well suited to the face and expressions of the patient.
To increase the retention of the total prosthesis it is possible to use the roots of two remaining teeth (almost always the canines if still in good condition) as an additional attachment for the prosthesis through special titanium “buttons” called fixes; or if the amount of residual bone is sufficient, resort to implant surgery. In this case, implants with an anchoring function would be inserted into the edentulous crest.
